The show is described as “darkly comedic drama” inspired by Cleo, whose real name was Youree Dell Harris. (She died from cancer in 2016.) The series will explore her rise to fame and how that all led to a contentious court case by the U.S. government.

Harris served as a spokeswoman for the pay-per-call-minute service Psychic Readers Network in infomercials that aired from 1997 to 2003, where she urged viewers to dial in with her catchphrase, “Call me now!”

In 2002, the Federal Trade Commission charged the Psychic Readers Network with deceptive advertising, billing, and collection practices after the network billed victims an estimated $1 billion. They reached a settlement after paying a $5 million fine and erasing $500 million of debt owed by victims of the service.
