TVLine Items: Brenda Song Joins Mindy Kaling Series, Priscilla on Max and More

Brenda Song is clocking in for Netflix’s upcoming comedy from Mindy Kaling.

The actress has joined the cast of the currently untitled workplace series starring Kate Hudson, who also serves as an executive producer. Song will play Ali Iee, Chief of Staff for the fictional Los Angeles Waves basketball team who’s known Isla (Hudson) since they shared a dorm in college and knows where the bodies are buried.

Additionally, The Other Two’s Drew Tarver has been added as Sandy Gordon, the hopelessly unathletic CFO of Waves who works hard to restore the franchise to its previous greatness. Meanwhile, Scott MacArthur (The Mick, The Righteous Gemstones) is set to play Ness Gordon, the emotionally sensitive general manager of the Los Angeles Waves and an ex-player who flamed out after one season.

The series centers on Isla, who is appointed president of the Waves — one of the most storied professional basketball franchises — after a scandal forces her brother to resign. “Ambitious and often overlooked,” the description reads, “Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.”

* A24’s Golden Globe-nominated film Priscilla, written and directed by Sofia Coppola, will make its streaming debut on Max on Friday, Feb. 23. The film stars Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown) in the titular role and Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) as Elvis.

* Apple TV+ has ordered the eight-episode drama Margo’s Got Money Troubles, from David E. Kelley and starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning. The show is adapted from Rufi Thorpe’s anticipated novel, which will publish in June 2024.

* Winning Time’s Ari Graynor been cast in Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true-crime anthology Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story as defense attorney Leslie Abramson, who served as lead counsel for Erik Menendez, Deadline reports.

* Nnamdi Asomugha (Sylvie’s Love) has joined the Apple TV+ limited series The Savant, which stars Jessica Chastain as an investigator who infiltrates online hate groups, according to Deadline. Asomugha will play her spouse in the series inspired Andrea Stanley’s true crime story published in Cosmopolitan.
