It’s Children’s Week for the remaining stitchers, and even though the garments are much smaller than usual, they are definitely no less tricky to make. First, the Pattern Challenge sees them create super-cute dragon dressing gowns, complete with spikes. Then, for the Transformation Challenge, they have to customise kids’ denim jackets using fabric and trimmings from hand-me-downs. Finally, for the Made to Measure, some pint-sized models strut their stuff as the sewers knock up fabulous occasion wear fit for five-year-olds. But which needleworkers will find it child’s play and who will have tears before bedtime when they are sent home?

The locals are engulfed in a hubbub of anticipation as they get ready for their annual town meeting in which Tony’s (Paul Whitehouse) trousers play a significant and surprising role! Linda (Bridget Christie) has decided it’s time she return to suburban life, but when she spots an eviction notice on Pig Man’s (Jerome Flynn) cave, she realises she needs to act fast. Meanwhile, there is a big furore when the Eel Sisters announce this year’s Eel Festival will break with tradition and be led by a woman instead of a man. Who have they got in mind?

The Repair Shop series 12 (L-R): Will Kirk, Kate McDonald, Fiona McDonald, Bill McDonald, Jay Blades

As the National Health Service prepares to celebrate its 75th birthday on 5 July, The Repair Shop is turning the tables on the NHS to give it some TLC of its own. This special, restoring items related to the healthcare system, sees Dominic Chinea revive a much-loved Thomas the Tank Engine hospital trolley and Will Kirk work his magic on a desk used by a dedicated NHS family. Suzie Fletcher grapples with a 1960s GP’s bag, while bookbinder Chris Shaw transforms a patient diary kept by nurses for children’s author and poet Michael Rosen when he was hospitalised with Covid. Wondrous stuff. ★★★★ RF

Hijack, Apple TV Plus

Hijack on Apple TV+ stars Idris Elba.
Hijack on Apple TV+ stars Idris Elba.

If you were a fan of Jack Bauer’s exploits in hit US drama 24, then Idris Elba’s tense new thriller could be right up your street. The Luther star plays Sam Nelson, a skilled business negotiator who springs into action when his flight from Dubai to London is hijacked by a gang led by Stuart Atterton (Litvinenko’s Neil Maskell). There are no flying fists or blazing gun battles, with Nelson relying on his brain rather than his brawn during an intriguing seven-hour journey that plays out in real-time over the course of seven episodes. The first two episodes are available from today.
