The Woman in the Wall, 9 pm, BBC One

Colman and Lorna in The Woman in the Wall episode 5
Colman and Lorna in The Woman in the Wall episode 5

Haunted cop Colman (Daryl McCormack) has been told to take leave, but, unsurprisingly, he is not going to stop his investigations, and Lorna (Ruth Wilson) is more than willing to play super-sleuth as well when they team up to unravel the truth about the fake death certificates that seem to have been issued for children in care. As they follow a lead and question Colman’s adoptive mum Lola, they gather devastating fresh evidence. Meanwhile, there’s welcome news for pregnant Niamh and the survivors of the convent from fellow campaigner James, but some jaw-
dropping revelations look set to bring turmoil in next week’s finale…

Jamie Cooks the Mediterranean, 8 pm, Channel 4/Channel 4 On Demand (box set)

This week Jamie heads to Tunisia, where his attempt to make bambalouni (donuts) does not go well and sees them wind up in the bin. He fares rather better when he tries his hand at couscous, then heads to the beach with a club who love to cook in remote areas, who treat him to a lamb stew that’s been baked underground. Inspired by all the sights, sounds and smells he’s encountered in the markets, Jamie then rustles up some crispy prawn and lemon parcels drizzled with harissa and a deliciously smoky chicken and merguez sausage stew.

Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, 9 pm, BBC Two

Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer for Mortimer & Whitehouse Gone Fishing season 6
Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer for Mortimer & Whitehouse Gone Fishing season 6

This week, comedians and pals Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse arrive in Wiltshire to fish for roach in the River Avon. As things kick off, Paul arrives in a flash car, much to Bob’s horror –‘You look like Lord Toffingham.’ Waders on, their first efforts prove fruitless, but following a (healthy green) tea break, Paul finally hooks a roach. Later, in a change to usual proceedings, Paul rustles up some dinner while Bob lounges in a huge bath. Day two sees a discussion about the pros and cons of ‘death cleaning’, Bob finally landing a chub and Paul being gutted by the loss of what Bob describes as ‘the best fish Gone Fishing has ever seen’. Also, Ted the dog is set up on a date that goes spectacularly badly.

Inheritance Wars: Who Gets the Money?, 9 pm, Channel 5

Tying in with the plot of Channel 5’s continuing drama The Inheritance (tomorrow, 9 pm), this series looks at how wills can tear families apart and starts with two fascinating cases. The first saw two brothers passed over in favour of their adopted brother in their parents’ wills, which resulted in a battle that changed inheritance law. The second is about how ‘turkey king’ Bernard Matthews’ will caused mayhem due to his controversial wishes.

A Grey seal pup in Scotland: The New Wild
A Grey seal pup in Scotland: The New Wild

There are some enchanting camera sequences in this new wildlife documentary, which tonight focuses on some of Scotland’s stunning islands, with footage of rutting deer, cute pufflings and the spectacle of thousands of grey seals arriving on remote beaches during pupping season. We also learn how invading Vikings mistook Manx shearwater for trolls thanks to their eerie night-time sounds. Later in the series, we discover how reindeer roam the Highlands and peregrine falcons inhabit Edinburgh.

Ashley Walters behind a chainlink fence in Top Boy season 3

Ashley Walters and Kano return as Dushane and Sully, with the action in this final series of the British gangland drama picking up shortly after Sully shot Jamie at the end of the last season, so there’s a huge fallout. Everything they’ve built comes under threat from forces outside and within their empire. Top Irish actors Barry Keoghan and Brian Gleeson join the cast as new characters Jonny and Tadgh.

Best film on TV tonight

George Michael: Portrait of an Artist, 9 pm, Channel 4

We don’t need an excuse to celebrate George Michael, one of our greatest songwriters. But in the year that he would have turned 60, we’ve had a new Netflix documentary [Wham!], a BBC Two evening dedicated to his music (the 2008 concert Live in London is still available on iPlayer), a poignant dedication from George’s friend Elton John at Glastonbury – and this film from former Wham! manager Simon Napier-Bell. It includes clips from Top of the Pops performances, videos and TV appearances, and contributions from music journalists as well as artists including Stevie Wonder and George’s former partner Kenny Goss.
