Bring on the joy and sparkle of Saturday nights as Strictly welcomes 15 fantastic new stars to the ballroom, including Angela Rippon, Les Dennis, Casualty’s Nigel Harman and soap stars Ellie Leach (Coronation Street) and Bobby Brazier (EastEnders). Tonight’s launch pairs the celebs with their pro partners, before they all take to the floor for the first time in a fast-paced group number. There’s also music from Jessie Ware and a routine from last year’s winners Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystał, while Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman add their usual twinkly humour as hosts. Our weekends are looking fab-u-lous and we can’t wait!

Alan Carr's Picture Slam is a BBC1 quiz with a twist.
Alan Carr's Picture Slam is a BBC1 quiz with a twist.

Alan Carr has already resurrected classic game shows such as Bullseye and Take Your Pick as part of ITV1’s Epic Gameshow. But now he’s getting his comedy chops around this brand-new quiz in which every question is a picture – and every picture can win cash! Game play is simple: players are shown a selection of images on a screen and must say what they are – with quizmaster Alan asking anything from ‘Which singer is this?’ to ‘What TV series is this?’. Get them all right – that’s a Picture Slam! Easy to play at home, with funny man Alan tying it all together with his cheeky humour, this one is sure to score a slam dunk.

Jan and Gethin have a picnic by the waterside in Casualty

While one episode of tonight’s double bill is set firmly in Holby, the other follows Jan and Gethin in Switzerland, as the divorced couple go on what they’re calling ‘one last adventure’. It’s a hard-hitting and emotional journey, sensitively presented and from several angles –Jan is quietly desperate for Gethin to change his mind about his end-of-life plans; Gethin reveals his anguish about what the future may hold for him; and a distraught Teddy frantically tries to get hold of his aunt and uncle. A poignant and intimate exploration of a difficult subject in expert hands with Di Botcher and Robert Pugh.
