TV Ratings: ‘Madam Secretary’ Down in Return

CBS premiered new seasons of “Madam Secretary” and “Elementary” Sunday night, seeing diminished numbers for each.

The third season of “Madam Secretary” debuted to a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 9.4 million total viewers — down 21% in the demo from last fall’s season debut and 20% in the total viewers. “Elementary” shifted from its Thursday-night perch of last fall to the Sunday, 10 p.m. post-“Madam Secretary” slot previously occupied by “The Good Wife.” It opened its new season to a 0.8 in the demo and 6.3 million viewers — down 27% in the demo from last fall’s Thursday-night debut, but up 13% in viewers. Newsmagazine “60 Minutes” kicked off the night for the Eye with a 1.4 in the demo, followed by “NCIS: Los Angeles” with a 1.5.

NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” posted declines in early numbers. In metered-market household ratings, last night’s game drew an 11.0 — down from a 12.9 the previous week. Full, time-zone adjusted ratings will be available later Monday.

On ABC, the season premiere of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” drew a 1.0 in the demo, followed by “Once Upon a Time” (1.1), “Secrets and Lies” (0.9), and “Quantico” (1.0). On Fox, “The Simpsons” drew a 2.6, followed by “Son of Zorn” (1.6), “Family Guy” (1.6) and “Last Man on Earth” (1.0)
