TV Ratings: ‘Big Bang Theory’ Wins, ‘Jane the Virgin’ Returns Up From Finale

“The Voice” helped push NBC to a win over CBS on Monday night, despite “The Big Bang Theory” growing a tenth of a point from last week in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic. “Big Bang” pulled in a 3.4 demo rating and 13.84 million total viewers for the Eye, while “Kevin Can Wait” held steady compared to last week with a 2.1 demo ratings and 8.67 million viewers.

“The Voice” pulled in a 2.6 demo rating from 8-10 p.m., and 11.1 million total viewers. “Timeless” at 10 drew a 1.5 and 6.06 million total viewers. (Perhaps a bit troubling: “Timeless” lost half a ratings point in the demo and 1.73 million viewers from its first half of the hour to the second.)

What didn’t help CBS was the premiere of “The Odd Couple” at 9:30, which returned to a 1.1 and 4.71 million total viewers, losing half a demo ratings point from “2 Broke Girls” at 9 (1.6 demo rating, 5.87 million total viewers). However, the “Odd Couple” premiere was actually up from its finale in May (.9, 4.47 million). “Scorpion” came in at 10 p.m. with a 1.3 demo and 7.15 million total viewers, pretty steady with last week.

Jane the Virgin” returned on The CW for its third season, answering the question of whether Michael lived or died after being shot at the end of last season (no spoilers here). “Jane” gathered a 0.5 in the demo and 1.2 million viewers, up from its finale in May (0.4, 970,000). An hour earlier, “Supergirl” dropped a couple tenths from its premiere demo rating, to a 0.9, and drew 2.569 million total viewers.

On ABC, the state of the 10 p.m. hour remained dire, as Hayley Atwell’s legal drama “Conviction” once again took up residence below the Mulaney Line, with a 0.8 demo rating and 4.49 million viewers. “Dancing With the Stars” continues to be a steady presence, with a 1.5 demo rating and 10.37 million total viewers. It also draws more 18-34 viewers than you might expect: It averages a 1.1 rating in that particular age group, more than its competition on young-skewing Fox and The CW.

On Fox, “Gotham” held steady with a 1.1 and 3.2 million viewers in total. “Lucifer” also remained steady from last week with a 1.1 demo rating, and actually built on its “Gotham” lead-in’s total audience with 3.66 million.

Most of these shows will see lifts of 50% or more once viewing within three and seven days is counted, though most of them won’t see commensurate lifts in the ratings advertisers care about.
