TV News Roundup: Thomas Kail and Common To Produce Fox Comedy

In today’s TV news roundup, “Hamilton” director Thomas Kail and rapper-actor Common will team up to produce a new comedy on Fox, Christopher Lloyd joins Syfy’s “12 Monkeys” and more.

DEVELOPMENT

“Hamilton” director Thomas Kail and rapper-actor Common are set produce “93 Til Infinity,” an upcoming single-camera buddy comedy from Fox, Deadline reports. The series, currently a script order, will be written by “How to Make It in America” creator Ian Edelman. The plot centers on a formerly successful ’90s rapper who is struggling in the present day as he reconnects with his best friend from middle school, who is equally desperate to emerge from a mid-life crisis.

CASTING

Christopher Lloyd will guest star in Season 3 of Syfy time-travel drama “12 Monkeys.” Lloyd will play Zalmon Shaw, a charming but deadly cult leader who preys upon others’ tragedies and losses in order to recruit new members into the apocalyptic cult the “Army of the 12 Monkeys.”

Alyssa Milano has been cast in Netflix‘s “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” series as a mystery recurring character. Among the “Wet Hot” talent returning for the next installment are Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Chris Pine and Kristen Wiig.

Pop has announced the cast for its upcoming comedy “The Joey Mac Project.” Adam Ray, Jamie Denbo, Katie Wee, Punam Patel and Jordan Black will comprise the entourage surrounding the playing-himself Joey McIntyre, who lands a gig as a talk show host at a cable network called The Comfy Channel. The series, a fictionalized version of McIntyre’s life in which his family will also play themselves, is scheduled to bow in 2017.

DATES

Bravo’s reality show “Ladies of London” will have its season three premiere on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 10 p.m. Returning ladies Juliet Angus, Caroline Fleming, Marissa Hermer, Julie Montagu and Caroline Stanbury are joined full-time this season by Sophie Stanbury. Adela King will appear as a friend of the ladies.

RATINGS

Discovery Channel‘s latest season of “Gold Rush” got off to a rather impressive start last Friday with 3.96 million total viewers. That didn’t quite outdraw TBS’ telecast of the first game of the MLB’s American League Championship series in total viewers, but “Gold Rush” beat the ALCS in almost every demographic relevant to advertisers, including men 25-54 and 18-49. N.B.: “Gold Rush” creator Todd Hoffman recently started his own production company.
