TV News Roundup: Freeform Sets Winter Premiere Date for ‘The Fosters’

In today’s TV news roundup, Freeform announced the winter premiere dates for “The Fosters” and “Switched at Birth” and greenlit the new comedy series “Brown Girls,” and more.

DATES

Freeform’s original drama series “The Fosters” and “Switched at Birth” will return to the network for brand new seasons at the tail end of January. The fourth season of the family drama “The Fosters” premieres Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017 at 8 p.m. Additionally, the fifth and final season of “Switched at Birth” also premieres Jan. 31 at 9 p.m.

DEVELOPMENT

Freeform also greenlit a new comedy series under the working title “Brown Girls,” from writers Shilpi Roy and Nastaran Dibai. The pilot will center on two women of Indian descent who clash over their different views on modern life and love. The project is executive produced by Roy and Dibai, as well as Tracy Katsky, Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor.

EXECUTIVES

Rex Humbard of UP Entertainment has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Production & Operations. Humbard joined the company in 2005 and was previously Senior Vice President, Production, Operations & IT.

RATINGS

CNN came out on top of competitors MSNBC and Fox News in the 25-54 demographic in primetime on Friday. It notched 459,000 viewers in that important-to-cable-news-advertisers demo, compared to 434,000 for Fox News and 421,000 for MSNBC.
