TV News Roundup: Conan O’Brien to Host Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Norway
In today’s TV news roundup, Conan O’Brien gets a hosting gig for the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Queen Latifah is set to executive produce the U.S. adaptation of the Singaporean series “The Kitchen Musical,” and updates from Discovery and Velocity.

Conan O’Brien will host the 23rd Annual Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo on Sunday, Dec. 11. The annual event, which will be live streamed worldwide via YouTube, is presented by Nobel Peace Prize Research & Information and produced by Warner Bros. and Gyro. Musicians Halsey and Highasakite will perform at the concert, which honors this year’s Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos. “It’s an honor to host this prestigious event, and an even greater honor to receive the Nobel Prize in Particle Physics. I have a very good agent,” O’Brien said.
“Treasure Quest” returns to Discovery Channel for a second season on Friday, Nov. 4 at 10 p.m. In the new installment, titled “Treasure Quest: Snake Island,” the treasure hunters will leave Snake Island for the South American mainland to continue their hunt for priceless Incan artifacts.
DEVELOPMENT
MTV is developing a TV series based on “War of The Worlds,” Variety has confirmed. The project hails from “Teen Wolf” creator Jeff Davis, who’s wrapping up that MTV show after six seasons in 2017, in addition to scribe Andrew Cochran and The Firm’s Jeff Kwatinetz and Josh Barry. “War of the Worlds,” first published by H.G. Wells in 1897, was most recently adapted as a 2005 feature film by Tom Cruise.
Electus will be adapting Singapore’s “The Kitchen Musical” for the U.S., in partnership with Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere’s Flavor Unit Entertainment and Principato-Young Entertainment. The original “Kitchen Musical” tells the story of a young woman named Maddie who becomes the new sous chef of her father’s famous restaurant. Latifah and Compere will executive produce the project.
GREENLIGHTS
Velocity has ordered a docuseries about the life of custom car designer Alex Vega. “The Alex Vega Project” will follow Vega and his family, creators of luxury vehicles for the likes of Lada Gaga, Marc Anthony and New York Mets slugger Yoenis Cespedes. The series, from Muse Entertainment, will bow on the Discovery-owned network in 2017.
