TV Academy ‘Overwhelmingly’ Votes to Begin Disciplinary Actions Against Harvey Weinstein

The Television Academy has “overwhelmingly decided to initiate disciplinary proceedings concerning Academy member Harvey Weinstein,” the group behind the Emmy Awards said in a statement.

“Such proceedings could result in action up to and including termination of Academy membership,” it continued.

A hearing on Weinstein’s status has been set for early November during a regularly scheduled meeting of the organization’s group of governors.

Weinstein has already been booted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group behind the Oscars, as well as the British Academy of Film and Television Arts since multiple accusations of sexual assault and harassment surfaced earlier this month.

The long-time indie exec was fired from The Weinstein Company, the company he co-founded 12 years ago and which produced such TV shows as “Project Runway” and “Marco Polo.”

Other industry organizations have begun similar proceedings.
