‘Turn It Up Tuesday’ history almost a decade in the making

JENNINGS, La. (KLFY) – This year marks the ninth anniversary since “Turn It Up Tuesday” debuted at Founder’s Park in Downtown Jennings.

According to the event director, they have witnessed crowd numbers double, if not quadruple, over the years. “It’s just a great way to pass a Tuesday for free. How often do you get that?” says Executive Director of the Jeff Davis Arts Council, Teesha Onellion.

Since 2015, bands, local food vendors and locals have gathered at Founder’s Park for Turn It Up Tuesdays. “Just local bands coming out playing music every Tuesday and it’s just grown from there.”

Onellion says every year, the event brings a special spark to the downtown area and drawing record breaking crowds. “Definitely through the years we watched it grow. It started small and as we continue on our bands get bigger and crowds get larger.”

Turn It Up Tuesdays offers a great time for tourists and locals, while also guaranteeing consistent foot traffic in the downtown area. “It really allows people to come and explore the downtown area. People set up as early as 9 a.m. and then they will walk around town after that.”
