Tumbbad 2 Release Date Rumors: When Is It Coming Out?

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and with Anand Gandhi and Adesh Prasad serving as creative director and co-director, respectively, Tumbbad is an Indian Hindi-language folk horror film. Released in 2018, it revolves around a man named Vinayak Rao and his desperate search for hidden treasure in the cursed village of Tumbbad in 20th-century Maharashtra, India. Is there a Tumbbad 2 release date?

The Tumbbad 2 release date could arrive sometime in 2025.

In October 2023, celebrating the fifth year of Tumbbad, the film’s star and producer, Sohum Shah, revealed during an interview with Zoom that the second and third Tumbbad films were in development. “We are working on Tumbbad 2 and 3, and they will be connected,” he explained, adding that the same story will carry forward. The actor continued, “When we were making the first part, we had in mind that ‘a complete circle would be completed’. So yes, the film will come in full circle.”

Even though his character, Vinayak Rao, apparently dies at the end of Tumbbad, Shah seemed to hint that the audience would see more of Vinayak in the upcoming films. “We want Vinayak’s impact to be as strong as it was in the first film with Tumbbad 2 and 3 because we are not making it for the sake of it,” Shah said.

Back in May 2023, Shah told TOI that Tumbbad 2 was being written. The first film spent years in development hell, three years in production, and two and a half years in post-production. By extremely optimistic estimation, Tumbbad 2 is likely to come out sometime in 2025.
