Vanessa Hudgens said "I do" in one of the starriest destinations in Mexico this weekend, sources confirm to PEOPLE

The High School Musical alum, 34, and her professional baseball player husband, Cole Tucker, 27, invited friends and family to celebrate their wedding in Tulum, Mexico, a longtime celeb-favorite beach town on the Yucatan Peninsula.

Hudgens was spotted posing on the beach barefoot in a casual white dress over the weekend and her former HSM costar Monique Coleman posted a video on her Instagram Story showing footage of a tropical setting. Reps for both Hudgens and Tucker didn't respond to PEOPLE's requests for comment.

Located about an hour and a half south of Cancun by car along the narrow strip between a biosphere reserve and the Caribbean Sea, Tulum was once mostly popular with backpackers and adventure travelers. In fact, many of the thatched-roof lodges along the sands didn't even have electricity.

Now it's a luxurious locale that draws A-listers with its laid back-yet-trendy vibe and stunning white sand beaches.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Bosworth, Maren Morris, Julianne Hough, and Alessandra Ambrosio are among the many celebs that have vacationed here over the years. Paris Hilton stayed at the HABITAS hotel, while Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz have done yoga retreats at Amansala Resort and Spa. Kristin Cavallari was spotted at Azulik, which has a modern-day Swiss Family Robinson treehouse feel with adults-only, thatched-roof lodges.

Many of the hotels and restaurants in and around Tulum pride themselves on being committed to sustainability, making it a popular spot for celebs who are actively eco-conscious. Some visitors ride bikes around, and the bars and restaurants are often open-air and lit by candles.

In recent years, many larger resorts have opened up beyond the original stretch of small beach hotels, leading to an even greater influx of international visitors and diluting some of the bohemian spirit Tulum was known for years ago. But the added luxury hasn't hurt the appeal for some famous vacationers.

Modern Family's Sarah Hyland and her Bachelor-alum husband Wells Adams stayed in an over-water bungalow at El Dorado Maroma. And Hotel Esencia is a favorite of Lupita Nyongo, Suki Waterhouse, Jerry O'Connell and Diane Kruger.
