Tucker Carlson says women making more than men is a ‘crisis in marriage’ causing more ‘drug and alcohol abuse’

On Wednesday’s Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News, the host used part of his opening monologue to discuss the blending of economics and culture. He argued that urban decay is popping up in rural neighborhoods due to male unemployment, in part caused by women making more money than men.“Study after study has shown that when men make less than women, women generally don't want to marry them. Maybe they should want to marry them, but they don't,” Carlson said. “Over big populations this causes a drop in marriage, a spike in out-of-wedlock births and all the familiar disasters that inevitably follow: More drug and alcohol abuse, higher incarceration rates, fewer families formed in the next generation.”

While some viewers on Twitter thought Carlson hit it out of the park with his monologue, others weren’t so sure. And some hope these comments will cause the loss of more advertisers.

Carlson went on to blame both parties for what he calls a “crisis in marriage.” And he added that ignoring it is “negligence on a massive scale.”“This is not speculation or propaganda from evangelicals. It's social science. We know it's true,” Carlson said. “Rich people know it best of all. That's why they get married before they have kids. That model works.
