On Tucker Carlson Tonight Tuesday, Carlson continued the Fox News offensive against Meghan Markle following her interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired Sunday night. In the wide ranging interview, Markle spoke about how her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, had made her cry during the week leading up to her wedding. While that wasn’t anywhere close to the entire story, that’s what Carlson decided to focus on, even going so far as to mockingly invoke one of the darkest days in American history.

“Here’s this royal person, one of the most famous and fawned over people in the world telling Oprah that she was incredibly wounded because she got into some sort of petty argument about dresses with her sister-in-law at her wedding three years ago. So stop the presses,” Carlson said before mockingly invoking one of the darkest days in American history. “She and her sister-in-law had a tiff about clothes. That’s never happened before. She thinks this is important enough to bring up in a television interview. It was her 9/11. So of course she considers it newsworthy. Okay, so she’s a narcissist.”

In failing to provide context, Carlson wildly misinformed his audience about the real issue of which Markle was speaking. Markle, who has been ruthlessly attacked by the British media for years, was making the assertion that the royal family did not protect her the way it protects others. The Middleton story was just an example. According to Markle, when tabloids reported several months after the wedding that it was Markle who made Middleton cry, the royal family did nothing to correct the story.

“They were willing to lie to protect other members of the family,” Markle said in the interview, “but they weren’t willing to tell the truth to protect me and my husband.”

TUCKER CARLSON: Here's this royal person, one of the most famous and fawned over people in the world, telling Oprah that she was incredibly wounded because she got into some kind of petty argument about dresses with her sister-in-law at her wedding three years ago. So stop the presses.

- Tucker Carlson attacked Meghan Markle Tuesday over an interview that aired Sunday, in which the Duchess of Sussex opened up to Oprah Winfrey about life with the royal family. Carlson zeroed in on one particular story in which Markle spoke about her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, making her cry in the days before her wedding. Though at the time, British tabloids reported it the other way around. And Carlson mockingly invoked one of the darkest days in American history.

TUCKER CARLSON: She and her sister-in-law had a tiff about clothes. That's never happened before. She thinks this is important enough to bring up in a television interview. It was her 9/11. So of course, she considers it newsworthy. OK, so she's a narcissist.

- But while attacking Markle, Carlson failed to provide his viewers with the proper context. Markle brought up the story while speaking about how the royal family didn't protect her the way it protects others. During the same interview, Markle, who is of mixed race, also alleged racism in the royal family concerning the skin tone of her and Prince Harry's son, Archie, and said that Archie would not be receiving traditional royal titles. But Carlson came to the conclusion that due to her proximity to the wealth and fame of the royal family, Markle has no right to feel oppressed by the royal family.

TUCKER CARLSON: What she's really saying is that despite her enormous wealth and fame, despite the fact she never has to cook her own dinner or drive her own car, she is, and this is the headline here, she's actually an oppressed victim. She may look powerful, but she's powerless.
