Tucker Carlson compares Michelle Obama to Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard
One night after Michelle Obama delivered a speech at the Democratic National Convention that garnered resounding praise from the media, including from many on Fox News, Tucker Carlson compared the former first lady to Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard and strongly implied that Democrats are her followers.
“You probably still think of the left as secular, but not anymore. They are fervent religious fanatics,” Carlson said on Tuesday’s Tucker Carlson Tonight. “Michelle Obama is their L. Ron Hubbard. Everything she does is good by definition. She’s the most beautiful, the smartest, the wisest. If Michelle Obama played golf, she would shoot an 18 everytime.”
A few minutes earlier, Carlson mockingly lamented Obama’s widespread high regard.
“Now we don’t want to be too harsh about this, we’re not lawyers,” Carlson said, “but we understand the constitutional limits of the first amendment in this country as now defined: No shouting fire in a crowded theater. No criticizing Michelle Obama.”
Moments after playing a clip of Obama’s speech in which she spoke about police violence toward people of color, Carlson took special exception to her phrasing. He accused Obama of overstating police violence while, at the same time, he downplayed the number of unarmed Black men that have lost their lives at the hands of the police.
“What you just heard was a total and complete crock!” Carlson exclaimed. “A never-ending list of people of color continue to be murdered? That’s what Michelle Obama told us. Well, no. So far this year, there have been a total of eight unarmed Black men killed by police in this county. Not a never-ending list, eight. Last year there was a total of fourteen.”
And Carlson left no room to question exactly how he feels about Michelle Obama and her speech.
“In the words of Van Jones, her speech last night was ‘extraordinary.’ Even though, as you know if you saw it, it was the exact opposite of that,” Carlson said. “The speech was ordinary. It was totally pedestrian like almost everything Michelle Obama says. But you can’t admit that, you gotta pretend that she’s Aristotle.”
