TU to host January Jazz Sunday

Jan. 18—CAIRO- Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) presents its January Jazz concert on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the historic Zebulon Theater located at 207 N. Broad St. in Cairo, Georgia. This concert will feature performances by the Cairo High School Jazz Band and the Thomas University Jazz Ensemble.

"These performances will provide an example of two types of jazz bands with the high school performing in a big-band or swing-band configuration and the university in a combo jazz band configuration," stated series coordinator and Professor of Music Dr. Karl Barton.

The theater was built in 1935 and originally opened by Ms. Ethel Blanton, who named it after her husband Zebulon Blanton. The Zebulon is an Art Deco-style, old-time theater that has been remodeled to continue bringing culture and family-friendly films into the community, and regular concerts are part of the offerings.

This concert is free and open to the public and will begin at 4 p.m. on January 21.
