This is “Small Bites,” a South Florida Sun Sentinel feature with tiny tidbits on the food and beverage scene — because we know that sometimes you just don’t have room for a long article. You want a little news brief instead, an amuse bouche of information, if you will. Enjoy!

WHAT:

Want a sneak peek of chef Michelle Bernstein’s restaurant Sra. Martinez long before it opens in Coral Gables in 2024?

Then check out the pop-up the James Beard Award-winning chef is offering from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1 at Abiaka Wood Fire Grill at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood.

The cuisine and craft cocktails at both Sra. Martinez and the pop-up will reflect Spanish influences along with flavors inspired by Bernstein’s worldly travels. She and hubby/business partner David Martinez first operated Sra. Martinez in the Miami Design District from 2008 to 2011.

The pop-up is part of the resort’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. Bernstein, who was born and raised in Miami, is of Argentine-Jewish (her mother) and Russian-Jewish (her father) heritage.

She may be best-known for TV hosting turns on PBS’ “Check, Please! South Florida” and WPLG-Ch. 10’s “SoFlo Taste.” Bernstein has also served as a judge on cooking competitions “Top Chef” on Bravo and “Chopped” on The Food Network.

Her Miami-Dade County restaurants include Cafe La Trova on Calle Ocho, Sweet Liberty in South Beach, La Cañita in Bayside Marketplace, as well as both Luncheria and Michy’s Chicken Shack in the Julia & Henry’s food hall in downtown Miami.

WHEN:

The pop-up will take place from Thursday, Sept. 28, through Sunday, Oct. 1.

Dinner service is from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday and Sunday and 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
