President Trump is campaigning for Sean Spicer to win some votes tonight on “Dancing With the Stars.”
Using his favorite method of mass communication, the president tweeted out his support for the former White House Press Secretary ahead of the next episode of the celebrity dance competition series.
“Vote for good guy [Sean Spicer] tonight on Dancing With The Stars,” Trump tweeted Monday. “He has always been there for us!”
Spicer resigned from his position as Press Secretary in 2017 after telling the president he disagreed with his choice to hire Anthony Scaramucci as communications director, according to the New York Times. Scaramucci exited the job just 10 days later.
Spicer’s casting on the long-running ABC series at the end of August stirred up strong reactions — one notably being from the show’s host, Tom Bergeron, who said at the time that he and the executive producers “can agree to disagree,” though he had hoped the series would remain “a joyful respite from our exhausting political climate.”
Spicer remains on good terms with the president, and has downplayed the criticisms over his casting. He told CNN, “I think this is an entertainment show,” adding that, “I look forward to having some fun. And if people are looking for news, I suggest they tune into a news program.”
Since Spicer made his debut on Season 28, reactions to his dance moves have been a mixed bag, with one judge described his attempt at salsa dancing as making him look like he was being “attacked by a swarm of bees.”
Still, despite the criticisms and low judge scores week to week, Spicer and his partner Lindsay Arnold remain in contention for the mirrorball trophy.
Vote for good guy @seanspicer tonight on Dancing With The Stars. He has always been there for us!
