Trump Says ‘Home Alone 2’ ‘Won’t Be the Same’ After Canadian Broadcaster Edits Out His Cameo

President Trump has reacted to outrage over the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation editing him out of “Home Alone 2.”

“The movie will never be the same! (just kidding),” Trump tweeted on Thursday.

His response came hours after the CBC responded to the backlash by pointing out his single-line cameo was edited out of the movie when the corporation acquired the rights to it in 2014.

“As is often the case with feature films adapted for television, ‘Home Alone 2’ was edited for time. The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the movie as none of them were integral to the plot,” a CBC spokesperson told TheWrap. “These edits were done in 2014 when we first acquired the film and before Mr. Trump was elected President.”

The backlash came from those who put forward the idea that the edits were made for political purposes, not because of timing issues.

Speaking on Thursday’s “Fox and Friends,” Canadian-born political commentator Mark Steyn said: “I think they’re actually terrified that people will remember that before he was the new Hitler, he was a beloved mainstream cultural figure.

“That’s who Donald Trump was before he was the new Hitler. I think they’re terrified of these little things that will remind people just how deranged his opponents are.”

Co-host Ed Henry also used that language, accusing the CBC of “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

For her part, contributor Katie Pavlich chalked it up to “censorship.”
