Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen Just Reached a Plea Agreement with Federal Prosecutors

From Esquire

Here's a new one for the crack legal team of Donald Trump, American president: Michael Cohen, his longtime fixer, has reportedly reached a plea agreement with federal prosecutors. This is not great news for the president, and not just because it was Cohen who set up the Delaware shell company, Essential Consultants LLC, to pay off Stormy Daniels on Trump's behalf in possible violation of campaign finance law.

Cohen was also intimately involved in much of the Trump Organization's business activity over the last decade, up to and including a deal to build a Trump Tower Moscow during the 2016 election that he pursued alongside convicted felon Felix Sater, a Trump associate with links to the mob. Cohen is not necessarily the key to opening up the books at Trump's business, including any foreign liabilities and entanglements that could prove of interest to Special Counsel Robert Mueller, but he surely knows where some of the bodies are buried.

It's not yet clear if Cohen has agreed to supply information related to the Russia probe to Mueller's team. But taken with the ongoing trial of former Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort-the jury is expected to deliver a verdict at any moment-and the list of other Trump campaign figures already cooperating with the feds (deputy campaign manager Rick Gates, foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos, White House National Security Adviser Michael Flynn) this represents just the latest legal snafu for a member of Trump's inner circle. Expect a calm and measured response out of the White House any minute now.
