Bucking predictions, President Trump tweeted this morning that he will not block the release of thousands of the government's JFK assassination files, which are scheduled to be declassified next week. Politico reported yesterday that word within the administration was that Trump would prevent the files’ release before October 26th, the date on which the National Archives are scheduled to make them public.

In 1992, Congress - partially spurred by public interest in Oliver Stone’s conspiracy-heavy hit film JFK - passed the JFK Assassination Records Collection Act. The law declassified most of the assassination files during the nineties, and set approximately 3,000 more to be declassified 25 years later. The approaching deadline has made JFK conspiracists understandably hyped - just take a look at 2017jfk.org.
