Trump blasts California governor for not cleaning forest floors in wake of fires

President Trump has slammed California Governor Gavin Newsom for not “cleaning” the forest floors amid a spate of wildfires in the state.

“The Governor of California, @GavinNewsom, has done a terrible job of forest management,” Trump tweeted Sunday. “I told him from the first day we met that he must ‘clean’ his forest floors regardless of what his bosses, the environmentalists, DEMAND of him. Must also do burns and cut fire stoppers.”

“Every year, as the fire’s rage & California burns, it is the same thing-and then he comes to the Federal Government for $$$ help. No more,” Trump continued. “Get your act together Governor. You don’t see close to the level of burn in other states.”

“Our teams are working well together in putting these massive, and many, fires out. Great firefighters!” he added.

This isn’t the first time Trump has blamed California wildfires on the poor maintenance of forest floors. He made similar comments in November 2018, even claiming that Finland avoids such fires because of raking.

At the time, Trump faced backlash for his comments, with one firefighters’ association saying: “Mr. President, with all due respect, you are wrong. The fires in So. Cal are urban interface fires and have NOTHING to do with forest management.”
