Truly Texan: One Austin man's journey to keep opera alive, inclusive
In this week's episode of the Truly Texan podcast, Austin-based jazz singer and opera librettist Joshua Banbury discusses his experience as one of the few Black, openly gay men in his field.
Banbury attended the Austin School for Performing and Visual Arts before going to New York's The New School for college. There, he expanded upon his singing skills after previous education confined him to only classical voice.
The 20-something-year-old singer now has an upcoming performance on Nov. 4 at the historic Apollo Theater in New York.
