Tropical gala will benefit three worthy organizations

HOWELL — A fun and tropical gala will raise funds for three community organizations in March.

The 2024 Annual Midnight in the Tropics is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, at Crystal Gardens Event Center, 5768 E. Grand River Ave. in Howell. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

It's presented by the Livingston County Sunrise Rotary Club, in collaboration with the Livingston County Sunrise Rotary Foundation. The LSRF has contributed nearly $650,000 over the past decade to local nonprofits and service providers, with most funds directly benefiting Livingston County residents, according to a news release.

MITT provides an opportunity to support three organizations and enjoy a night of tropical festivities. Tickets and sponsorships are available for purchase online at midnightinthetropics.com. Organizers encourage locals to buy tickets early, as they’ve sold out for the past five years.

This year, the event will support:

  • Torch 180 — Founded in 2015, Torch 180 is a unique training facility dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities, providing them with the skills and opportunities necessary to gain employment in the food service industry. Torch 180 transformed the former Fowlerville Library into a 4,000-square-foot training facility and restaurant that's open to the public. Learn more at torch180.org.

  • Reaching Higher — Reaching Higher seeks to empower today’s students for tomorrow’s decisions. The organization's eight-session program focuses on increasing self-confidence, teaching goal-setting strategies, enhancing decision-making abilities, improving public speaking and interpersonal communication skills, and providing effective stress and coping skills.   • Livingston County Catholic Charities’ Youth Substance Abuse Program: This program is committed to combating substance use and abuse among youth. It offers innovative programming and events to educate minors and their families. Learn more at livingstoncc.org.
