Tropical Storm Ian made landfall along Florida's West Coast Wednesday afternoon as a powerful Category 4 hurricane.

The storm weakened Thursday as it makes its way across the state toward the Atlantic. It could strengthen to near-hurricane strength once in the Atlantic and as it approaches the Carolinas, according to the National Hurricane Center.

What's the storm season forecast for 2022?

Forecasters expect yet another busy Atlantic hurricane season in 2022. As many as 10 hurricanes could form, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Overall, NOAA said 14 to 21 named storms could develop.

Officials encourage residents to assemble a hurricane kit early, storing enough supplies to last at least three days. Doing so ensures there are adequate supplies available on store shelves and prevents a rush — and shortages — that regularly occur when a storm is imminent.
