Troopers seize nearly 128 pounds of suspected cocaine in I-40 traffic stop

The Texas Department of Public Safety said it seized nearly 128 pounds of suspected cocaine on Thursday afternoon and arrested two people after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle on Interstate 40 in Carson County.

At about 3:05 p.m. Thursday, May 25, a DPS Trooper stopped a 2021 Honda CRV traveling east on I-40 near Conway for a traffic violation. A DPS canine unit arrived at the scene and alerted on the vehicle.

DPS said that during the stop, the Trooper found a large plastic tote on the rear seat containing multiple plastic-wrapped bundles of the suspected cocaine.

DPS Special Agents and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agents were contacted and assisted with the investigation. DEA Special Agents adopted the case.

The driver, Miguel Diaz Garcia, 32, and a passenger, Rodman Duran Garcia, both of Atlanta, Georgia, were arrested and face charges of felony possession of a controlled substance. They were later booked into the Randall County Jail.

The drugs were reportedly being transported from Riverside, California, to Atlanta, Georgia.
