Trinity Rodman, the 18-year-old daughter of retired NBA star Dennis Rodman, has joined the National Women's Soccer League.

Trinity was selected by the Washington Spirits as the second overall pick during Wednesday's NWSL draft, according to ESPN. Emily Fox was picked first by Racing Louisville.

"This has been my dream forever, I've been playing soccer since I was 4 years old," Trinity said in an interview shortly after being drafted while standing beside her mom Michelle Moyer, CNN reported.

Trinity also said that she's ready to step out of her father's shadow and shine all on her own.

"He was an amazing athlete, and I got those genes from him, but I'm excited to be known as Trinity Rodman and not just as Rodman's daughter," she said. "I'm excited to pave my own path and get better throughout this journey."

According to ESPN, Trinity was a forward on the U.S. youth soccer team, where she helped lead them to the 2020 CONCACAF U20 Women's Championship last March. She had enrolled at Washington State but never played with the Cougars after the NCAA women's soccer season was pushed from last fall to this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Spirit's roster also includes goalkeeper Aubrey Bledose, forward Ashley Sanchez, and defenders Kelley O'Hara and Emily Sonnett, both of whom played for the USWNT when they won the 2019 Women's World Cup.

Dennis, 59, and Moyer, 54, welcomed Trinity in May 2002, just over a year after they welcomed son Dennis Jr., now 19. The NBA star and Moyer married in 2003, but she filed for divorce two years later. After years of trying to reconcile, the marriage was officially dissolved in 2012.

Dennis has another daughter, 33-year-old Alexis Rodman, with his first wife, Annie Bakes, whom he was married to for just 82 days.
