Tribute group Hairball plans to rock Corbin Arena

Feb. 20—CORBIN — Classic rock tribute group Hairball is coming to the Corbin Arena this Saturday, February 24.

Hairball is a unique act that features performances by costumed performers in the style of various legendary rock-and-roll groups.

The bands that they honor include AC/DC, KISS, Queen, Van Halen, Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, Cinderella, Motley Crüe, Aerosmith, and more.

Dave Moody, one of three vocalists for the band, spoke to the Times-Tribune about the show.

Moody, a Louisville, Kentucky, native grew up "living and breathing" classic rock.

He is especially fond of the band KISS.

"Gene Simmons is one of my heroes," Moody said. "Wearing all makeup, the boots, the gear, and the armor is challenging...I have a deep respect for them."

Moody believes that the era which Hairball harkens back to was the best of times. He noted,"We would all sit by the TV and eat our Cinnamon Toast Crunch and watch Gene Simmons spit blood...It was truly the greatest time."

Moody has played for other groups in his 35 years as a musician, including bass for Billy Ray Cyrus for 10 years.

However, in his four years as a vocalist for Hairball, Moody has developed a particular reverence for the act.

"The costumes are 100% authentic; the acts are 100% combed over and studied; the music is 100% live. No backing tracks. It's as real as grandma's biscuits and gravy. We know these characters like the back of our hands," he said.

Moody also takes pride in what the show itself is made to do.

"We wrap you in a warm nostalgia blanket," he continued. "You're gonna walk into the arena and leaving floating. We have pyro and a lighting rig that could land a 747 — an all out rock-and-roll assault system. Our #1 goal is for you to come in and have a great time...to lose your mind in the gospel of rock-and-roll, and we preach it better than anyone else."

According to Moody, there are generally 12 different acts every show, which lasts about 2 hours.

Tickets can be purchased at the Corbin Arena Box Office (606-258-2020), Ticketmaster.com, or Corbin Arena website www.thecorbinarena.com.

The Corbin Arena is located at 500 Arena Drive in Corbin.

The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 24.
