A Tribe Called Quest’s Final Album Will Include Elton John, Kendrick Lamar, Jack White, Andre 3000 & Busta Rhymes

For A Tribe Called Quest‘s final act — their sixth studio album and first album in 18 years, titled We Got It From Here, Thank You for Your Service — the New York-bred rap collective (Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Jarobi White and the late Phife Dawg, who passed from complications from diabetes earlier this year) isn’t skimping on big names.

A new profile for The New York Times revealed the stacked list of features for the set which includes André 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Elton John and Jack White. Busta Rhymes, ATCQ’s standout collaborator on the 1992 classic “Scenario,” will also reunite with the Tribe for the LP, due Nov. 11 via Epic Records. The group began working on the album after celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm for a performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last November.

Rhymes noted that there was a rule of thumb for the album’s contributors: “If you wrote your rhyme somewhere else, you still had to come back and lay your verse in Q-Tip’s house,” he told the NYT. “So we pretty much did every song together. Everybody wrote his stuff in front of everybody. Everybody spat their rhymes in front of each other. We were throwing ideas around together.”

As for the album’s title (a suggestion from Phife), Tip said of its meaning, “I don’t know … We’re just going with it because he liked it.”
