Liz Truss was the butt — or perhaps, vegetable head — of many jokes from Trevor Noah on Thursday night, after she resigned from her role as Britain’s Prime Minister less than two months after taking the job. As “The Daily Show” host put it, she didn’t even last as long as parties thrown by her predecessor.

Truss resigned on Thursday morning, just 44 days after taking office following the resignation of Boris Johnson. Johnson left his post after intense pressure to do so, based on his handling of COVID in the country, and going against his own guidelines regarding social distancing during the pandemic.

Noah couldn’t help but compare Johnson’s alleged parties to Truss’ reign.

“God damn Britain, another prime minister? Another prime minister?” Noah mocked. “And this one only lasted 44 days. Boris Johnson had COVID parties that were longer than that.”

Noah went on to list the reasons behind Truss’ resignation, noting that, for the most part, it was based on her actual politics, not her extracurricular activities.

“Remember, the reason Liz Truss lost her job is because she came into office making worse decisions than a company’s social media manager during Black History Month,” Noah joked. “Terrible budget plans, firing finance ministers, going back on her own policies, sending the queen to meet Jesus — things were going so badly, so badly that the British press trolled her with vegetables.”

Indeed, inspired by a comment from The Economist magazine saying that Truss’ hold on power was “roughly the shelf-life of a lettuce,” British tabloid the Daily Star set up a video of a head of lettuce dressed to look like Truss with one question: “Will Liz Truss outlast this lettuce?” The joke was started one month after Truss took office and yes, the lettuce outlasted the Prime Minister.

“Oh that is humiliating. That is humiliating. Imagine being so bad at your job, that you lose a joke contest,” Noah mocked.

Looking ahead, Trevor Noah wondered who might be able to take office after Truss, considering some are suggesting Boris Johnson return. But “The Daily Show” host had someone else in mind: Paddington. According to Noah, the stuffed bear could have any policy he wants — even terrible ones — and people would still love him for his cuteness and his voice.

But in the end, Noah had no real solution.

“Right now, Britain’s parliament sounds more chaotic than a family reunion at Herschel Walker’s house,” he joked.
