Trevor Noah is making light of a stressful traveling situation in the trailer for his upcoming stand-up special Where Was I. In the clip, the South African native comically describes losing his luggage in France and the language barrier he faced to find it.

“When I flew to Paris, my luggage was lost. I had to find someone to help me,” began the New York Times bestselling author, before describing the hybrid English-French, hard-to-understand, advice offered by an elder gentleman.

The David Paul Meyer-directed comedy special was filmed at the Fox Theatre in Detroit and premieres on Netflix on Dec. 19. Where Was I is the comedian’s fourth stand-up for the streamer, following I Wish You WouldSon of Patricia, and Afraid of the Dark.

According to the official logline, the feature brings Noah to Netflix for his fourth original comedy special. On stage, the 39-year-old shares his hilarious experiences from his recent travels around the world, ranging from foreign national anthems to varying cultural norms.

This year, Noah is up against Chris Rock, Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, Ricky Gervais, and Sarah Silverman in the newly named Golden Globes category, Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. It is both Sykes and Rock’s first nomination at the award show.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards will air live at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS and stream on Paramount+. The strides in stand-up come nearly a year to date after Noah broadcast his final episode of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show where he served as host for seven years.

“I remember when we started the show, we couldn’t get enough people to fill an audience,” he shared on air. “There were empty seats, and then I look at this now. I don’t take it for granted ever.”
