Trevor Noah finds the silver lining for congressman accused of covering up sexual abuse

On Wednesday’s The Daily Show, host Trevor Noah talked about U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio. He is a frontrunner to replace Paul Ryan when he steps down as speaker of the house next year. Jordan was also recently accused of ignoring sexual abuse when he was an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University.

Wow, turning a blind eye to rampant sexual abuse of the kids you are supposed to be protecting,” Noah said while discussing the story. “I’m sorry, it doesn’t get more scumbag than that.”

Jordan recently responded to the allegations by saying nobody ever actually reported abuse and that it was just talked about in a locker room setting. In other words, he used the ol’ “locker room talk” defense.

“Like what is it with these guys in locker rooms?” Noah wondered.

Noah drew comparisons between Jordan and a former house speaker from the early 2000s, Dennis Hastert, a now-admitted pedophile who covered up his crimes with payoffs. That’s just the kind of information Noah thinks Jordan can use in his quest for the speakership, and Noah even made a fake ad to help out the congressman.

“Jim Jordan is only accused of enabling sexual abuse,” the ad says, after laying out Hastert’s history. “And the victims weren’t children. He is the progress we need. Jim Jordan, not as bad as a pedophile.”

The Daily Show With Trevor Noah airs weeknights at 11 on Comedy Central.
