Trevor Noah Defends Not Being Harder on Conservative Commentator Tomi Lahren

Trevor Noah, host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, appeared on Watch What Happens Live and defended himself for not being very hard on conservative commentator Tomi Lauren when she appeared on the show on Nov. 30. Fans of the show are upset with Noah, who was visibly frustrated during the interview at Lahren’s inability, or unwillingness, to answer his questions, but he showed respect for his guest and let her speak her mind. Noah thought it was important to have a civilized conversation with someone who is on the opposite end of the political spectrum.

“The reason I had her on the show was to exist in a space where, you know, everyone goes, ‘Everyone’s existing in echo chambers. No one talks between the bubbles that everyone talks about.’ So I was like, ‘Well then, let’s see what happens when the bubbles collide,’” Noah said.

Fans of The Daily Show were also upset to hear that the show sent Lahren cupcakes after her appearance. Noah went on to explain that they regularly send gifts to guests of the show, using as an example that they’ve sent Chelsea Handler vodka. Fellow guest John Legend, and host of WWHL Andy Cohen, have both been guests on The Daily Show and were quick to point out that neither of them had received gifts.
