Yahoo Sports’ lead draft analyst Eric Edholm shares his evaluation of the Clemson quarterback.

ERIC EDHOLM: By now, you surely know all about Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. He's expected to be the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Three year starter for the Tigers, won a national title as a freshman, got back to the playoffs the past two years. On the upside, if a quarterback needs it, he probably has it. Great arm talent, great athleticism, and outstanding poise. He processes like an NFL pro right now, and he's one of the most exciting talents, with a great mental make-up, that we've seen in the past decade or so.
On the downside, he still has some wild overthrows at times and will throw some passes in harm's way. He also lacks great deep touch. It wasn't something he was asked to do a ton at Clemson. He's better attacking outside, in the intermediate, than he is the deeper portion of the field. For an NFL comp, we see him very physically similar to Justin Herbert, who was a rookie star in 2020, and Lawrence might even be more advanced as a passer than Herbert was.
