Today (July 28), scores of fans have been pressing play on Travis Scott’s new album, UTOPIA. Just prior to that, the album’s visual accompaniment, a film named after the standout single “CIRCUS MAXIMUS,” landed in select theaters in major cities — many of which were confirmed to be sold out. Those that attended the screening in NYC were surprised by the Houston talent himself, who expressed his appreciation in a fan-recorded video. “It’s been a long time… I just wanna enjoy this film wit’ y’all,” he said to loud applause from the audience.

In addition to checking out the film, all attendees were treated to free merch, some of which was scattered throughout theaters as a surprise. “Send me photos and vids from inside. Actually, [taking] pics in a theatre is janky. Whatevs, who cares, let’s have a blast,” Scott tweeted alongside images of a promotional T-shirt.

According to the description shared on the AMC Theatres website, CIRCUS MAXIMUS is “a surreal and psychedelic journey, uniting a collective of visionary filmmakers from around the world in a kaleidoscopic exploration of human experience and the power of soundscapes.” “Travis Scott takes his audience on a mind-bending visual odyssey across the globe, woven together by the speaker rattling sounds of… UTOPIA,” the synopsis added. As previously reported by REVOLT, Gaspar Noe, Valdimar Jóhannsson, Nicolas Winding Refn, Harmony Korine, and Kahlil Joseph contributed to the cinematic piece.

Back in 2019, Scott liberated the documentary Look Mom I Can Fly, which chronicled his rise to fame and the creation of the groundbreaking LP ASTROWORLD. Kylie Jenner, Mike Dean, Don Toliver, Sheck Wes, Kanye West, and his daughter Stormi Webster made appearances throughout. Come September, the Rodeo star will reunite with Korine at the 2023 Venice Film Festival where they will premiere the A24-backed movie Aggro Dr1ft.
