Travis Kelce to Host Celebrity Edition of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

If you thought you were excited for the release of Taylor Swift’s “Tortured Poets Department,” just wait until you hear what boyfriend Travis Kelce has lined up for the off-season.

Prime Video announced Tuesday that the reigning Super Bowl champ will host Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?, a reimagining of the long-running game show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? The spinoff will offer a “fun, new twist” on the original premise, as an adult contestant relies on “a classroom full of celebrities from stage, screen and sports to help them answer 11 questions on a range of subjects, pulled from elementary curriculum, in an effort to win a $100,000 prize.”

Amazon has ordered 20 episodes of Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?, which will premiere on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. A release date has not yet been announced.

“I grew up loving game shows, and I’m excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my very first one with Are you Smarter Than a Celebrity,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end said in a statement Tuesday. “The original show is a great success, so to be bringing a new format with everyone’s favorite celebrities to the screen, will definitely be entertaining. I’m just happy to be on the hosting side of the equation here and excited to see how these famous faces keep up.”

Added original series co-creator/general manager of MGM Alternative Barry Poznick: “After producing more than 3,000 episodes of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? globally, we wanted to come up with a new, loud twist on the format. Replacing the kids with celebrities gives us more laughs and surprises, like a roast, as contestants cheat off their famous classmates. And now, with the ultimate class clown, Travis Kelce, hosting, viewers should expect the unexpected!”

No word yet on which celebs will appear in Season 1 — though Kelce is arguably attached to the biggest celebrity on the planet.

The original Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? bowed in 2007, with host Jeff Foxworthy. Three seasons were produced for Fox before the series made the leap to syndication in 2009. It was revived at Fox for a fourth primetime season in 2015. It was then rebooted at Nickelodeon for a single season in 2019, with new host John Cena.
