Police in Washington, D.C. are investigating the death of a transgender woman who they say was killed last weekend.

On Oct. 14, Anee Roberson, 30, was assaulted near Nellie’s Sports Bar – a popular gay bar in Northwest D.C. — before being struck by a car, police said, per Fox 5 DC, WUSA 9and NBC Washington. She died at a local hospital.

A medical examiner determined she died of blunt force injuries and her death was ruled a homicide, according to WUSA 9.

The driver of the car that hit Roberson remained at the scene and cooperated with police, per the outlet. Authorities said they are not connected to Roberson’s assault.

Police confirmed to Fox 5 DC and NBC Washington that Roberson was a transgender woman. It’s unclear if her death is being investigated as a hate crime.

Now police are searching for the person who assaulted her. No arrests have been made as of Oct. 20.

The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
