Transgender ‘Survivor’ Contestant Immediately on Hot Seat After Being Outed

Last week’s Survivor ended in dramatic fashion when Jeff Varner outed Zeke Smith as transgender. It was a surprising moment that sent shock waves far beyond the world of Survivor. On this week’s episode, we witnessed the aftermath of that tribal council, and when the tribes merged, Zeke shared the story with the other tribe members.

When Varner outed Zeke, the rest of the tribe immediately came to his defense. Zeke reflected on what it was like to have that support, saying, “It is heartening in this game that, often, your lowest moment, you know, when something bad does happen to you, that people who are out to get you, in some regard, do stand in your defense and do come to your defense, and I was truly touched.”

Although, Zeke’s defense didn’t last for long because after he threw Andrea under the bus to Debbie and Sierra, people started turning on him. Sierra said, “Whenever I talk to Zeke, I feel like he thinks I’m stupid, and I don’t trust him.” When Andrea found out about Zeke’s betrayal, she said, “I am furious at Zeke. I’ve been working with him since day one. I thought we were not only alliance members, I thought we were friends.”

At tribal council, Zeke saw his name written down four times. And while Ozzy was the one sent home, the promo for next week showed Zeke isn’t in the clear just yet.

Survivor airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
