Trainer Hams It Up on ‘Strong’ Premiere

Strong premiered on NBC Wednesday night. The fitness competition show pairs out-of-shape women with professional male trainers, and the two compete for a $500,000 grand prize.

The episode began with the competitors selecting their trainers, and when Brittany Harrell-Miller chose Ky Evans, she chose wisely.

Ky, a 43-year-old professional ballet dancer turned trainer, is a bit of a ham and one of the few trainers prone to clowning around. And judging by the smiles he created, it was appreciated by the other contestants.

During the episode, there were multiple challenges that required climbing, which is something Ky was quick to voice his opinion about. “I’ve never climbed anything in my life except a six-foot model, back in New York when I was younger,” he said. Later he explained that he just wasn’t designed to climb, saying, “These are hands that should be on a Dove commercial, I don’t know how to grab these (rings).”

Hopefully Ky and Brittany will go a long way, because the two contestants seem to have a good rapport — and a little laughter does the show a service.

Strong airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
