Pat Monahan, appearing with his band Train on today’s episode of ABC’s The View, said the group is at work writing the music for a new stage adaptation of the 2013 musical-comedy film Begin Again that starred Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo.

The film was written and directed by John Carney, who wrote and directed the 2007 film Once and the 2016 film Sing Street. Both of those movies were later adapted as stage musicals.

Monahan provided no further details on the project, including whether anyone from the film version is involved in the stage adaptation.

The film version featured songs written by Gregg Alexander and Danielle Brisebois (better known as the ’90s rock group New Radicals, who had the hit single “You Get What You Give”), Nick Lashley, Rick Nowels, and Nick Southwood. The film’s stand-out song “Lost Stars,” performed by by Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, was nominated for a 2015 Oscar for Best Original Song.

In the film, Knightley played a singer-songwriter who is discovered by a struggling record label executive played by Ruffalo. The two collaborate on an album recorded in public locations throughout New York City.

Monahan did not give a development timeline for the stage adaptation (Train is on tour this summer) other than to say “it’s really close.” He added that he hopes to bring the show to New York.
