‘How To Train Your Dragon’ Live-Action Pic Expands Cast

Julian Dennison (A24’s upcoming Y2KDeadpool 2), Gabriel Howell (Nightsleeper, Bodies), Bronwyn James (Wicked, Masters of the Air), and Harry Trevaldwyn (The Bubble, Ten Percent) have been cast as Fishlegs, Snotlout, Ruffnut, and Tuffnut in Universal Pictures’ live-action take of DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon.

They join Mason Thames and Nico Parker who are set to star as Hiccup and Astrid in this adaptation from original How to Train Your Dragon filmmaker Dean DeBlois, who is also directing, writing and producing this new reboot.

Three-time Best Picture Oscar nominee Marc Platt (La La LandBridge of SpiesTrial Of The Chicago 7) will produce for his Universal-based Marc Platt Productions alongside Adam Siegel, President of Marc Platt Productions.

The pic hits theaters on June 13, 2025.

Dennison just wrapped a lead in the Jonah Hill produced Y2K for A24 alongside Jaeden Martell and Rachel Zegler, which will hit theaters this year. He also stars opposite Minnie Driver and Rhys Darby in the festival film Uproar which premiered at TIFF this past September. The actor starred as a lead in the Legendary/Warner Bros franchise Godzilla Vs. Kong, and as the villain in Christopher Columbus’ Christmas Chronicles 2 opposite Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. Previously, Dennison starred as ‘Firefist’ in Fox’s Deadpool 2.

Howell will be seen this Spring in Nightsleeper (BBC).  The actor starred in the Netflix series Bodies as well as the 2022 film The Fence.  A graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Howell has also been seen on stage with The Unfriend (West End & Chichester Festival Theatre), Burying Your Brother in the Pavement (The Alma) and The Seagull (RADA).

James can next be seen in the feature film adaptation of Wicked opposite Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo playing the role of “Shen Shen”, as well as in Mickey17 for director Bong Joon Ho. Other recent credits include the Apple series Masters of the Air from Cary Fukanaga and The Palace from director Roman Polanski. Additional credits include Intergalactic for Sky, a leading role in the new comedy Sandylands with Simon Bird, and The Dig with Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes.

Trevaldwyn is an actor, writer, and comedian who broke out in Judd Apatow’s The Bubble (Netflix) and Ten Percent (Amazon Prime Video and BBC America). He played a lead role in the indie movie, Sweet Sue, which has just been released in cinemas in the UK. He will soon be seen in My Lady Jane for Amazon Prime Video and the third series of The Outlaws for BBC One and Amazon Prime Video. Further credits include The King for Netflix and Smothered for Sky Max in the UK.
