‘Patriots Day’ Trailer: Mark Wahlberg In Race To Catch Boston Marathon Bombers

Here’s the new trailer for CBS Films and Lionsgate’s Patriots Day, directed by Peter Berg and starring Mark Wahlberg. The film focuses on the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the five-day manhunt that ensued afterwards. Wahlberg plays Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders who joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to catch the bombers before they strike again.

This is the same trailer that CBS Films premiered to attendees at Deadline’s Contenders event on November 5, when Berg and Wahlberg were on hand to discuss the project.

Patriots Day, which is closing the AFI festival on November 17, also stars Kevin Bacon, Michelle Monaghan, John Goodman and J.K. Simmons.

CBS Films and Lionsgate co-financed the project with CBS Films handling production and marketing and Lionsgate handing distribution. The two studios recently worked together in a similar way on indie hit Hell or High Water, which is currently wrapping up its theatrical run with at $26.9M domestic tally.

The companies are kicking off a Patriots Day Charity Campaign on November 21, a non-profit initiative that will empower people across the country to honor select first responders, medical professionals and survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing. The filmmaking team has provided $100,000 in matching funds that will be distributed to the participating causes as well.

Patriots Day opens in Boston, New York and Los Angeles on December 21 before it rolls out nationwide on January 13, 2017.
