What were the Lakers thinking? No Lowry trade? Who won and who lost? LaJethro Jenkins and Seerat Sohi discuss.

Video Transcript

SEERAT SOHI: What do you want me to call John out for?

LAJETHRO JENKINS: My battery's about to die.

SEERAT SOHI: Yeah. That, listen, that is a pretty [MUTED] excuse, right?

LAJETHRO JENKINS: I'm running off of four hours of sleep. [LAUGHS]

SEERAT SOHI: Do you need our life battery?

Were you surprised that they didn't do anything in the deadline?

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Yes! Because I'm like, you know. Like, dog, we need something. What are the Pistons doing with Drummond? Are they just holding him hostage at this point? What are the plans? You know what I'm saying? What are the plans with that.

But we could have done something, and they just-- they didn't even try, it seems, you know what I'm saying? Just sitting there, twiddling their thumbs. We got AD and Bron. We'll be fine when they get back. But, hey, in the meantime, we could have done a little something.

SEERAT SOHI: Yeah. It looks like-- I mean, first of all, it'd be great if they were able to get Drummond. But here's what think the difference between these Lakers this year is and those Lakers from last year. A, the biggest thing to me is a lack of vertical space. It just doesn't allow them to get easy buckets anymore. There's just really no more lob threats, and especially if you have ADO like they do right now. They're just playing very, very flat-footed games.

There is athleticism. There's just not a lot of verticality. There's not a lot of guys who can go up and get it, and you combine that with the fact that they're not the best shooting team. And you're obviously going to run into some offensive problems.

That's not even gonna get it done. Like, that didn't get it done.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Yeah, yeah.

SEERAT SOHI: Like, Schroder and KCP did not get it done is-- we had somebody in Periscope saying-- asking if that was the biggest mistake of the season. I wouldn't necessarily term it that way just because I don't know if the Raptors were necessarily going for that. It seems like that was probably on the table, and I think the Raptors probably wanted a young player back for Kyle, which is ultimately I think why he didn't get traded.

I don't know. I think you just have to give it up at this point. I love Talen Horon-Tucker. He is part of the Lu Dort-Draymond Green generation. You're trying to win a championship.

Kyle Lowry has been there. He can shoot. He can defend. He can make plays. He's going to get out of the way. He just gives them an element, not only that they would have needed right now in terms of some floor spacing and a playmaker, but also a guy that they can easily plug in later and can play alongside Caruso, has played two hard lineups pretty much for his entire tenure as a Raptor. I think he would have been a perfect fit.

Oh, Miami actually.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Oh, you think Miami?

SEERAT SOHI: Miami got Oladipo for nothing I'm afraid.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Oh! What are the Rockets doing too?

SEERAT SOHI: Before we go, oh my God. What are you guys doing?

LAJETHRO JENKINS: What are they doing?

SEERAT SOHI: So you trade-- OK--

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Caris LeVert, Oladipo, for-- gave up James Harden for nothing! Nothing! Do you know what I'm saying?

SEERAT SOHI: Nothing. Not a damn thing. Not a damn thing. They got a pig swap in this deal. Either it's Miami's pig swap or it's Brooklyn's pig swap. Two teams in 2022. It's not that far away from now. In the next draft! Those teams are not going to be worse than you guys! You guys are awful! You just lost 20 straight games. I don't what you're doing.

At least go get a guy who can take a fire on. The Heat have every single young prospect in the world. They're not going to be able to develop them all. They're not going to let them. Maybe. It's the Heat. They could develop them all. They're not going to play them all.

You take off their hands Kelly Olynyk who can only really play spot minutes in the playoffs anyways.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Right, right.

SEERAT SOHI: [INAUDIBLE] give him a different look and can get some 3's off fast. He's really good at moving off pick and rolls, but as soon as they start targeting him, it's over for Kelly. And then Avery Bradly, the guy that they just signed for $10 million, two years this offseason.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: That I forgot existed! That I forgot existed in the NBA!

SEERAT SOHI: Victor Oladipo!

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Who's been playing solid! He's been good! What are you doing? I don't understand it. John Wall has to be sick down there! He went from the Wizards to what he thought would be winning, and it's an even a worse situation now! You know what I mean? It's hard. How are you a Rockets fan at this point? What are you doing anyway? Whatever. I'm on 2% battery. I don't want to just cut off.

SEERAT SOHI: Bye.
