Tracy Morgan Tells Oprah He Spoke to His Deceased Father While in Coma

In a preview clip for the Oprah Winfrey Network show Super Soul Sunday, Winfrey sat down with comedian Tracy Morgan to discuss life after his near-fatal car crash in 2014. “I told my wife that the other day. Something … something’s different,” Morgan said to Winfrey, “The way I am with people, something’s just different.”

The crash put Morgan into a coma for two weeks and required rehabilitation because of the multiple injuries he sustained. The accident also took the life of fellow comedian James McNair.

Morgan spoke about how his mindset changed after his recovery. “I find myself saying ‘I love you’ 200 times a day to strangers,” Morgan explained. “I don’t care. I don’t gotta know you to love you — I love you!” That emotion resonates with Morgan’s interpretation of how people should treat each other. “That’s how we’re supposed to be as human beings. We’re supposed to take care of each other,” he told Winfrey, “What we see sometimes down here on earth, ain’t no room for that up in heaven! Ain’t no room for it.”

While in the coma, Morgan feels he crossed to the other side, and he recounted a vision during which he says he spoke to his father, who passed away in 1987. “I was talking to my dad, he that this green … this green thing on,” he recalled. “And I just remember him saying, ‘I’m not ready for you, son.’”
