Tracy Morgan and Nas are not only related through their shared background as New York natives, but also by blood; it’s been revealed that the two stars are biological cousins.

Morgan recently appeared on the Connect The Dots podcast, where he spoke about his experience filming an upcoming episode of the PBS series Finding Your Roots. The comedian recalled how he discovered their connected ancestry on the show while looking through a copy of his family tree. The news came as a pleasant surprise.

“I turn the last page, and guess who’s sitting there? Nas,” the 55-year-old said. “Me and Nas is third cousins on my mom’s side.” He also notes that he and Nas have been close years prior to his discovery, recalling an instance in which he actually dedicated one of his own comedy shows to Nas’ mother following her passing in 2002.

“Me and Esco was always tight before that,” he said. “I did a show years ago on Comedy Central called One Mic that was for Nas’ mom that just passed away, so me and Esco always been tight.” Morgan also spoke about the conversation he and Nas had after learning they’re related. The exchange conjured up an emotional response from both parties.

“I called him up and I say, ‘Yo Esco. Guess what? I just did ‘Finding Your Roots,’” he recalled telling the 50-year-old Hip-Hop star. “‘Me and you related.’ He started crying, I started crying. And I said to him, ‘If you ever need me, I’m there, cuz.’ He said, ‘Cuz, if you ever need me, I’m there.’”

This is the second time in recent months that Nas has been reunited with family. In September, Nas was greeted by another of his cousins during the Tampa stop of he and Wu-Tang Clan’s N.Y. State of Mind Tour.

“You my cousin?” Nas asked the concertgoer at one point during his performance. “I ain’t seen you in like… 20 or 30 years. That’s f**king crazy. I’m happy you here. Yeah. F**king amazing, man. See what y’all did for me? Bring family together. That’s f**king beautiful.”
