TR grapplers beat SHS, 73-0

Three Rivers traveled to Sturgis for a wrestling dual matchup on Wednesday despite both schools being closed earlier in the day.

The Wildcats, who check in at No. 6 in the latest rankings for Division 3, won the matchup between the rivals, 73-0. Three Rivers’ Lloyd Ruesink also won his 100th career match in the team’s victory over SHS.

The match got underway at 144 pounds. There, Louis Smith earned a victory by pinfall over Juan Pablo Soto. This came at the 1:27 mark of the first period.

Landon Moreland then won his bout at 150 pounds, beating Jacob Armey by technical fall at 16-1.

Three Rivers would earn another pinfall victory at 157 pounds. This came from Jeremiah Detwiler, who beat Angel Alvarez at 3:53.

The bout at 165 pounds was decided by decision. There, Alex Bryant edged out Aaron Castro by an 8-7 decision.Jaxon Smith then beat Kyle Woodward at 175 pounds in a 2-0 decision. Jacob Howes at 190 earned a win by void for Three Rivers, this made the score 28-0 Cats.

To earn his 100th career victory, Ruesink won by pinfall. It came at 215 pounds over Ishmal Cruz at 1:25 of the opening period.

Next, Jacob Reynolds won by pinfall at 285 over Angel Ortiz to make the match 40-0 Three Rivers.

At 106 pounds, Three Rivers got another win by pinfall. It came from Clinton Kaiser, who pinned Gage PeDue in the first period.

Kylan Eckler at 113 and Talan Flowers at 120 each won by void in the next two matches, this put the score at 58-0 in favor of the Wildcats.

Following that, Larry Joe Hensley beat Lola Barkby by technicall fall. The score was 16-1 of that bout, which stopped in the third period.

Next, Ayden Keler won a close match over Kaiden Waldron at 132 pounds. The final score was 8-7 Keller, putting TR up 66-0.

In the final bout of the evening, Josh Jones won by pinfall over Yovani Ramirez at 138 pounds. This came at the 40-second mark of the first period.
