'The Toys That Built America' S2 Is Nostalgic FunHistory Channel

Ever wonder how Star Wars became a merchandise icon nearly upon release? Or where the hell Sonic came from? Or the enthralling and disturbing story of the defunct Georgia hospital turned into Cabbage patch amusement park, “BabyLand General Hospital”? Well, tune in Sunday to the History Channel at 9 p.m. ET for the Season Two premiere of The Toys That Built America to get some of these questions answered. (You’ll unfortunately have to wait a few weeks for anything on Babyland, but trust me it's well worth it.)

The Toys That Built America is the latest series in the ongoing Built America cinematic universe, and the second season to focus on toys. Childhood favorites like Lego, Nintendo, Heman, Litebrite, and so many more get their turn in the spotlight. You can even see me—yep, me!—strut my nerd stuff as a talking head sharing my borderline obsessive look on all things play. The first episode will cover Star Wars and He-man, taking a look at the uphill battle and massive risk that Star Wars toys started as, plus the chokehold(s) that the laser swords and millennium Falcon had on the toy market. Also included: how a little company called Kenner, with underground toys like Playdough and an easy bake oven, took over the toy world.

Whether you're feeling nostalgic, want to know what and who was behind your childhood obsession, or really just want to find out about Babyland General Hospital, tune in this Sunday. For an early taste, a preview is streaming below.
