Brett Murphy and Wilson Gandolpho’s Keenspot comic book series Toy is getting an animated adaptation, courtesy of actor/comedian Kate Micucci.

As broken by Deadline, Micucci is currently developing an animated series based on Toy. In addition to producing, the Big Bang Theory alum is attached to star in the series, as well as create its music. In fact, she has reportedly already recorded the first draft of the cartoon’s theme song.

The Amazing World of Gumball senior writer Tobi Wilson is attached to serve as showrunner on Toy. Wilson will also produce the series alongside Micucci. Additional producers include Chris Crosby and Bobby Crosby of Keenspot, as well as David Campiti of Glass House Studios. Glass House will animate the series.

“[We] have been fans of Kate’s acting, comedy, and music for years,” Chris Crosby, Keenspot’s CEO, said in a statement. “We are so honored that her unique and hilarious voice is teaming up with brilliant showrunner Tobi Wilson to bring this project into animated reality!”

Micucci is perhaps best known for her role as Lucy on CBS’s The Big Bang Theory. She has also voiced the character of Velma Dinkley in over a dozen animated Scooby-Doo productions since 2015. Her other credits include DuckTales, Milo Murphy’s Law, Raising Hope, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, How I Met Your Mother, Supergirl, Teen Titans Go!, and more.

What is Keenspot’s Toy about?

Murphy and Gandolpho’s Toy launched from Keenspot in March 2023. Four issues have hit comic shops at the time of writing, with a fifth due for release this April.

An official synopsis for issue #1 reads as follows: “From the crazy creators of Sumerian’s Paranormal Hitmen (now in development as a TV series by eOne) comes the wacky new all-ages series Toy! Follow the adventures of Rockledge’s greatest inventor, Toy, as he and his pals deal with the evil Lily Buttercup and her gang of goons … Lily Buttercup terrorizes the town with her new ginormous mechsuit.
